A predatory songbird, the Northern Shrike breeds in taiga and tundra of Alaska and Northern Canada. Winters in southern Canada and the northern United States. It feeds on small birds, mammals, and insects, sometimes impaling them on spines or barbed wire fences. This a very young bird, just out of the nest.
An artist for over thirty years, June Hunt began painting while living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She has had the opportunity to travel extensively, and her paintings reflect the wildlife and landscapes of several different regions of the world, including Canada, Africa, and Europe, as well as many locations in the U.S. Though largely self-taught, she was a fine-arts major at Wichita State University, and has taken classes with nationally acclaimed artists, including Hugh Greer, Jean Grastorf, and John Seerey-Lester. Her works hang in private collections in the United States, Mexico and Canada. She paints in oils, watercolor, pastel, and acrylic, and also works in glass mosaic.
